About Our Day Camp Dog Training

Training your dog is a one-way ticket to a better relationship with your pet and more experienced pet ownership. Still, tackling a full training program on your own can be a challenge for busy professionals and families alike. That’s where Sit Means Sit Austin comes in.

What Is Doggie Day Camp?

At Sit Means Sit, we love dogs — and their families! Our dog training camp in Austin will help your dog grasp basic training commands with our experienced trainers. All you have to do is sign them up and bring them in. From there, you can get on with your day while we work with your pooch.

Our dog daycare training runs once a week for four or six weeks. After each all-day training session, we’ll tell you what your dog has learned and give you homework to continue training at home.

Day Camp FAQs Questions & Answers

Nope! We welcome dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages, regardless of whether they have been spayed/neutered. However, if you know your dog is coming into season, please let us know so we can prepare.

We are focused on training quality, not quantity. Hence, we have a 4 dog to 1 trainer ration each day. This means that each pup gets A LOT of attention and training throughout the day.

Our day camp training programs are tailored to fit your unique requirements and objectives, and you can find more details on pricing here.

Your dog is trained for approximately 2 hours throughout the day, not including your 1 hour lesson at the end of the day. They 2 hours is broken out into 15-30 minute increments. When they are not being actively trained, we have them remain in a passive training command, “place.” This teaches them impulse control around distractions.

We offer the training over 4-6 weeks and it is 1x per week. We recommend consecutive weeks, but if you need to, we can split it up.

Following each day of training, you will receive a private lesson to recap the day and teach you what you need to know to reinforce skills at home. After your day training is over, you are invited to join us in group training classes where you and your family can reinforce the training your dog has learned. You’ll also gain lifetime access to our coaching support program and online portal, which we update regularly with new training tips.

Our day camp training aims to teach every dog basic training and commands in a positive, focused environment. We do not believe in yelling or dealing with conflicts in ways that cause confusion and act as punishment.

Instead, we focus on rewarding good behavior by building positive associations. From the moment they join day camp, your dog will be in a safe, healthy environment where they can focus on their training.

In the rare case that something happens to your dog, we contact you so that we get your permission to take your dog to the vet. If we cannot reach you within 30 mins of the issue, we will take the dog to the vet out of caution. Since 2012, we’ve trained approximately 10000 dogs, and we’ve had very few accidents ever happen. Because our numbers are so low, we are able to keep a close eye on dogs. This is how we keep dogs safe and healthy! We always know where they are, what they’re doing, what their stool looks like, if they’re eating and drinking enough etc.

The two types of training are very similar, however with Day Camp Training, you are much more involved. Dogs still get an immersive experience with us, but you also work on progressing them at home. Learning together is the best way to get sustainable results.

Drop off is between 8-9 am, and pick-up is at 3, 4, 5, or 6 pm.

Everything from the ground up going from basic attention to more advanced skills in high-distraction environments. The specific skills we work on are:

  • Sit
  • Down
  • Place
  • Off
  • Loose Leash Walking
  • Heel
  • Boundaries
  • Polite Greetings
  • Recall

Our Day Camp Training is our most popular program. In-house training is a natural and essential part of any pet’s training, but so is training in public around other dogs and distractions. At Sit Means Sit, we start this training from the beginning, building your dog’s ability to listen in even the most chaotic surroundings.

One of our trainers will work one-on-one with your pet. When you pick them up, the trainer will meet with you to review your dog’s progress and give a private lesson. You’ll also receive a membership to participate in our group classes, where you can meet other dog lovers and reinforce training.

We have been so happy with the progress our pup has made! Sit Means Sit trainers have gone the extra mile to keep in touch and make sure we are staying consistent with training. I highly recommend for anyone looking to have a stronger connection with their dog!

For awhile I’d said my dog Buck had good heart but bad manners. After a year of working with him myself and getting virtually nowhere, I decided to come here. Christian and the rest of the staff heard my goals and helped me hit them. In less than a month, Buck has become a new dog. While he’s not perfect (but who is?), I feel so much better equipped to deal with the occasional slip up. Also, training has changed from a chore to the highlight of my morning. I could not recommend these folks more highly.
