I can’t recall a time in my life when I didn’t have a dog or wasn’t training a dog. My first dog, Stormy, a Doberman, was the center of my sixth-grade world. I competed with him in AKC Obedience and he won many titles. I loved every aspect of training!
As a “grown up”, I joined the business world in the HR/staffing field, and ultimately became the CEO of a staffing firm. I considered myself successful, and I’ve really enjoyed helping people with their career objectives, but along the way, I spent all my free time training my German Shepherds, and I dreamed of being able to make a living training dogs and helping people to more fully enjoy their relationship with their dogs.
I have spent countless hours training in the IGP sport (Schutzhund/IPO), starting out my days at 6:00 a.m. to go tracking with my dogs. I have titled several German Shepherds (BH, Tracking and Obedience). My dogs absolutely love the sport! Training through play, but also having rules that the pack lives by, make my dogs happy and eager to train.
I found Sit Means Sit when I had a German Shepherd that showed signs of aggression, something I had not experienced before with my sport dogs. I was baffled by her behavior and tried everything I knew to fix it. Sit Means Sit was the only place I found that was fully willing and able to work through the behavior.
I learned so much from the trainers on how to recognize the emotional side of the fear that my dog was feeling, and how to show leadership to ease the fear, thus allowing the training to work. This was a huge thing for me to learn, even after so many years of training. The trainers worked through the specific issues and gave me new tools that really made a difference for me and my dog.
I knew I needed to be a part of the Sit Means Sit family because I want to help people have happy, confident, and obedient dogs. The opportunity to purchase Sit Means Sit San Antonio came along at the perfect time, so now I have the job of my dreams!
